Joseph and Gracie Galloway Foundation Scholarship Awardees
While the GI Bill pays tuition and books, it can still be a tremendous challenge to go back to school full time. After applicants for the Joe and Gracie Galloway Foundation scholarship are vetted and approved, their monthly expenses are determined, and a stipend ensures that they can pay their bills while going to school.

First Joseph and Gracie Galloway Foundation Scholarship Recipient: Carter Lentz
Carter was born in Annapolis, Maryland, and raised on the Eastern Shore of Maryland. After graduating from high school, he attended the Virginia Military Institute (VMI), where he volunteered as an EMT and earned a bachelor’s degree in Biology.
Driven by a passion for helping others—sparked during his time as a volunteer EMT—Carter enlisted in the U.S. Army as a 68W Combat Medic. Following basic training, he was stationed at Fort Hood, Texas, serving as a medic with the 1st Squadron, 7th Cavalry Regiment, 1st Cavalry Division.
Carter began working with the Joe and Gracie Galloway Foundation in February 2022, becoming the Foundation’s first candidate in its initiative to support the transition of military first responders into civilian medical careers.
Reflecting on his experience, Carter shared:
“I have been honored to work with the Galloway Foundation since February 2022, as their first candidate to transition from a military first responder to a civilian medical provider. Their steadfast philanthropy and strength of character have been truly inspiring. I’m grateful for the opportunity to help others and to work alongside people so deeply committed to building a better world.”
While originally pursuing a path toward becoming a Physician Assistant, Carter chose to attend nursing school and is now working toward becoming a Nurse Practitioner. He is currently enrolled in a nursing program.
Second Joseph and Gracie Galloway Foundation Scholarship Recipient:
Darryl Beauchamps, Jr.
Darryl Beauchamps Jr. graduated from PA school on May 10, 2025. He will be working in Wilkesboro, NC in an underserved area.
